School Uniform

Principles

It is our policy that all children should wear clothing that is in keeping with a purposeful learning ethos.  We also believe it is important that when attending school or when participating in a school-organised event outside normal school hours uniform be worn.  We provide a complete list of the items needed for children's school uniform in this policy.

Aims
Our policy for children’s school uniform is based on the belief that a school uniform promotes a sense of pride in the school and a feeling of community and belonging.  It is practical, comfortable and smart and identifies the children with the school.  It is not distracting in class (as fashion clothes might be), makes children feel equal to their peers in terms of appearance, is regarded as suitable, good value for money and has health and safety in mind.

School uniform is compulsory.  School colours are navy blue, pale blue and dark grey and the uniform is as follows:

  • Pale blue polo shirt - with school logo or plain
  • Dark grey trousers, dark grey shorts, dark grey knee length skirt/pinafore and in summer, blue gingham dresses or culottes/skorts
  • Navy blue sweatshirt or cardigan - with school logo or plain
  • Sensible black shoes, boots or trainers (no heels, open toes or Crocs)

Your child will also require a P.E. kit which should be left in school all week:

  • Black shorts
  • PE T-shirt (provided by school)
  • Black/dark grey joggers, tracksuit bottoms or leggings
  • Black sweatshirt or tracksuit top
  • Black trainers

We carry a few items of uniform in stock which can be purchased through SIMS pay. Alternatively, uniforms can be ordered from our uniform supplier direct on their website https://www.vortexschoolwear.co.uk/

There are also fleece and shower proof jackets available with the school logo but these are not a compulsory part of our school uniform.

It is not compulsory to wear our logo and we are happy for children to wear plain polo shirts and sweatshirts as long as they are in our school colours.

Our Parent Support Advisor also runs a "Swap Shop" for uniforms where you can either swap uniforms for a bigger size or purchase items for 50p. We appreciate donations of any uniform (in good condition) that your child has grown out of.

Jewellery, Nails & Piercings
On health and safety grounds we do not allow children to wear jewellery or piercings in our school.  However, pupils with pierced ears may wear one pair of small simple stud earrings. Pupils must be able to remove these independently in order that they can take part in P.E. as earrings must not be worn for P.E.

Pupils planning to have their ears pierced should do so in the first week of the summer holidays, in order that they can heal before they return to school.

Nails can be painted with clear nail varnish but coloured nail varnish and acrylic/false nails are not allowed in school.

Make up and cosmetics are not considered appropriate or consistent with our school uniform.

In addition:

  • Children are encouraged to bring a clear bottle of water to school each day.
  • All articles of clothing must be clearly labelled with the child’s name.

The school cannot accept responsibility for any lost items.

If anybody has difficulty complying with the uniform policy on medical or ethical grounds this should be referred to the school.
