ASTHMA & INHALERS16 October 2025 (by Joanne Swift (j.swift)) |
Our support staff have just received some training from an asthma nurse and they suggested that we review our procedures.
If your child has an inhaler in school, this will be sent home next week when we break up, along with a new Administering Medication form. When they return to school, we can only accept a NEW inhaler in an unopened box, labelled with their name. This is to enable us to monitor how many puffs have been taken, allowing us to count down from the 200 puffs contained to ensure children aren’t being given empty inhalers which are ineffective.
We have been advised that ALL children with asthma will have been given an ASTHMA PLAN. Following our new guidance, inhalers will only be administered when accompanied with a plan and if signs/symptoms are being displayed, unless otherwise advised by a medical professional.
Thank you for your understanding.
