'Learning for Life'

Forest School

Vision

Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit”   -  Edward Abbey Desert Solitaire

We at Kings Oak Forest School aim to provide the children with a safe and stimulating environment that removes the traditional constraints of the classroom setting. We strive to provide the children with a multi-layered and longitudinal approach to the outdoor learning environment. We promote and guide the children to become independent and resourceful learners who can respond appropriately and reflect on their learning experiences.

We aim to provide this through a tailored and targeted outdoor curriculum that focuses on the holistic development of the children. Our forest school ethos can be broken down into the development 8 key areas.

  • Confidence
  • Independence
  • Self-esteem
  • Resilience
  • Problem Solving
  • Risk evaluation and management
  • Communication and language skills
  • Physical development

In relation to the current global pandemic, we feel that the forest and outdoor environment offer the perfect platform to allow, emotional intelligence, self-motivation, self-esteem and self-regulation to blossom.

The forest school curriculum at Kings Oak PLC is currently mapped out for Early Years and KS1 in a progressive and sequential manner, making cross-curricular links where appropriate. However, we wish to extend this learning opportunity across the whole school in the upcoming year.
